The draft diversity and inclusion framework is helping us learn what we can do to make sure anyone can catch an Adelaide Metro train, bus or tram.

We have made a series of action plans for different types of passengers, which go together to create the framework for us to improve public transport for everyone.

We have done a lot of research and consultation to create the framework but it is still only a draft. We’d like you to tell us about any and all barriers that people may have using public transport in Adelaide.

Our goal is for every person who uses our services to feel welcome and included on public transport, so they can easily get to where they need to go.

What research has been done so far

The framework and action plans were created through research, qualitative and quantitative evidence, and consultation with industry stakeholders and specialist peak bodies.

We are starting with a few priority groups. These have been chosen because there is a lot of information already available, which means we can create a baseline that will help us understand everything else. The first groups are:

  • First Nations people - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
  • multicultural communities
  • older people
  • students and young people
  • women.

As our knowledge grows, we plan to expand the groups so we get a good understanding of all of our users.

We published the draft framework on the yourSAy website, so people could read it, do a survey about it, or join a discussion group. This consultation was open for one month and closed on 22 October 2021.

You can still be involved

If you would like to register your interest in being part of a Adelaide Metro diversity and inclusion reference group, please email your contact details and the group you are interested in joining to DIT.PublicTransportInclusion@sa.gov.au

Remember, the more you tell us about what you need from public transport, and any barriers or concerns you have about using it, the better our framework will be.

What we will do with your feedback

Your survey answers and any ideas you raised or commented on in the forum have been grouped together with other people’s thoughts. We are analysing everything for common themes, as well as new ideas.

The comments and themes will help us finalise the framework and action plans.

Once the plans are ready, we will set-up a network of stakeholders/community groups, to consult, co-design, and refine policies, practices and procedures within Adelaide Metro.
